Business Ideas for Ex Healthcare Workers
KNOW THIS:
Whether you’ve been let go because of vax mandates or you’re just totally burnt out and sick of healthcare in general, you DO have other income options that include WFH, being your own boss and NOT being so stressed all the time.
DO THIS:
Become a pro writer. If you like to write (and you’re good at it), pitch yourself to magazines and websites. Your story as a pandemic RN, tips for specific medical conditions, random stuff you know a lot about, etc.
HARO is a great way to find reporters who need writers for their articles. Sign up as a source and get pitching. Tip: when you pitch, be brief and concise and give them the entire pitch in your FIRST email to them.
Freelance writer rates. I’m all about the inspo and showing what you could potentially earn because it’s motivating AF!
Blog about your experience. Do you have some crazy Grey’s Anatomy-ish hospital stories (we all know you do)? Start sharing them (while maintaining patient privacy obvi)!
If you need help starting that hos gos blog, here’s our super short guide to get it up and running in ONE day.
PS hosgos.com is available… just saying ;)
Blogging is NOT just a hobby if you treat it like a startup, network and collab, get some high quality backlinks, work that SEO and create really great content.
Blog about your knowledge. Are you chock full o’ medical knowledge you wish more people knew about? Write about it! Look at the empire Dr. Berg built just from sharing his knowledge on YouTube.
As a mom, I’d LOVE a blog about simple fixes for common kids issues written by a pediatric nurse or doctor….hint hint.
Once your blog starts getting traffic (it will) you can monetize through affiliate programs, ads or even sell your own products or guides.
Oooh you could even start a paid membership for access to you. I realize this one would require a hefty amount of insurance, but might be worth the investment.
Blog about a hobby. Especially if you’re all healthcared out, this is your chance to pivot into something you love to do on weekends. Gardening, yoga, painting… this list could very well be eternal.
Think about what you’re naturally good at, what you lose yourself in or something that other people always come to you for help with. That’s what you should blog about.
Using the painting example… you could grow an audience by sharing your tips and beautiful artwork then parlay it into teaching online (or IRL) workshops for aspiring painters, selling merch with your images on it, writing books, etc.
Create an online course for new nurses, doctors, etc. Obviously they just got out of school and know a TON, but they don’t know all the weird nuances of working in a hospital or in a particular unit in the hospital; they probably don’t know about work/life balance yet or what their career advancement opportunities are… teach them that stuff!
If you’re not quite ready for a full-blown course, sell a $10 ebook first and get some traction. Squarespace and Leadpages are the easiest platforms to set up a blog that can also sell digital downloads.
If you are ready for a course, Kajabi is an awesome all-in-one platform for that.
Learn a totally new skill and document the process. If you tore off your mask and aren’t looking back, start thinking of the things that light you up MOST in life and start pursuing them. If you’ve always been curious about cooking, learn how to cook and document your wins and fails on a blog or YouTube channel.
This could eventually lead to cookbooks, video or blog sponsors, products, etc. Think big!
Start a vlog. I guarantee a LOT of people would want to watch what you’re up to after taking the healthcare leap. Are you trying one of the ideas above? Show us your journey. Are you going off the grid and starting a homestead in Montana? Cool, I want to watch.
FYI YouTube AdSense pays creators ~ $3 to $5 per 1,000 views. Might not seem like much, but if your channel gets popular it really adds up.
You can share affiliate links to all the products you use or wear in your videos and make extra $$ that way.

TOOLS:
1. Wordpress- ideal if you want a super-customized blog design
2. Bluehost- cheap, high-speed web hosting that works with Wordpress (sign up here first and they’ll prompt you to use Wordpress)
3. Squarespace- if you’re not overly tech savvy and/or don’t want to tinker with design non-stop, this is the best option and it always looks amazing.
4. Convertkit- the absolute best email service provider for creatives (and they have a FREE plan)
5. Mailchimp- free email service provider (up to 2,000 subs)
6. Leadpages- all-in-one website, email service provider and payment platform (for only $37/mo!!). Honestly I’d probably choose this option if I were just starting out and knew I could whip up an ebook to sell pretty quickly.
